- they will complete and 8km walk INSIDE the mall on a sunday evening after the mall stores have closed.
- Cadets will hang in their donations to the SSC there.
- Cadets will dismiss when they have completed their 8 laps inside the mall.
Details below:
The Airwalk is one of the major fundraisers for squadron activities put on by the Squadron Sponsor Committee ( SSC).
A walk a thon held inside the Cambridge Center – it has cadets collect pledges prior to the event. The goal is for each cadet to raise at least $60. ( though more is great – and allow the SSC to support even more activities)
The Airwalk itself is held on Sunday 29 Mar, just after the close of the mall. Cadets will walk 8 laps of the interior halls of the mall – each one about 1km.
At a glance:
Date – Sunday 29 Marr
Location – Cambridge Center near Theatre ( start)
Time – 1645h, walk will begin after you hand in your form and monies.
Pledge Sheets
Cadets were sent home with pledge sheets this past wed.
Cadets will bring that filled in with them on the 29th, along with their monies.
Lost it, we have more – but we’ve attached a copy you can print.
Day of the Airwalk
Cadets will arrive in comfortable clothes and good walking shoes.
They’ll hand in their pledge forms and monies to the SSC>
The walk will then begin soon after – with cadets hitting check in points along the route
Some cadets will walk and talk in groups. Others will put on their earbuds and walk solo. Either is fine.
When you’re done your 8 laps – you can depart.
Why Fundraising?
While the Department of Defence pays for SOME costs of cadet training and uniform – there are many other things that are not paid for by the Govt. Events like our upcoming Spring Field Training weekend are not, which will cost thousands of dollars.
With that in mind – the SSC and Staff have agreed that participation in fundraising is required to attend purely SSC funded activities.
None of those events are mandatory. None of those events are required events. But from shooting rockets at the spring FTX to having a band to the Christmas Dinner to buying new dodge balls – the SSC provides us tremendous support to do ALL the things we do.
Q/A
We have the mall to ourselves?
Yes, mostly. The theater is open, and the stores are closing up – but essentially yes, the mall lets offers this up for us to use, which is a tremendous boon to the SSC, and Sqn.
So I have to collect the money and bring with me to the start?
Yes.
No uniforms?
Nope. You walk, and everyone expects you to wear the best most comfortable walking shoes you have.
Check the picks from last year.
How long does it take?
Average cadet walking takes 1 hr 30 min.
Some walk slower. Some walk much slower.
Running is forbidden – the mall is very specific in this.
Do we need to sign up?
No. Cause every cadet is going to be there.
