Cadets will have the opportunity to apply for summer training. Information covers paid staff cadet positions, then the course options for online and in person summer courses.

Summer training this year is centered on cadets in L2 – L5. This year ( as in 2024) there is no training for first year L1 cadets.

STAFF CADET POSITIONS SUMMER 2025

First information out for summer 2025 is for STAFF CADET POSITIONS:

Those cadets interested in apply for Summer Training as a STAFF Cadets should review this e-mail ( also sent in C365 Outlook) . 

Staff cadet sections have opened up – so we ( the Sqn Staff – specifically CI Horton) can process your applications.

Pre-Requisites.

You must be 16.   You must be a cadet in good standing with the Sqn.  

Good health.  Active on C365.     At least in L3. 

There are virtual CTC positions, and in person ones.  Note that while the entirety of the country is here, you are more likely to be selected for a course nearby, for transport cost reasons .

How you apply:

You will send an e-mail to CI Horton  via C365 outlook.  

  • It must detail the camp SC you wish to apply for.   
  • It must detail which job Positions  or courses there you wish to do. 
  • Past your cadet record, anything you wish us to know.   
  • Want to send in more than one?   Do it.

Some answers before you have questions: 

If you are on the fence, not sure what the summer holds – apply.  We can cancel the app later if you wish.   

Can you apply for staff if you are going for power / glider?  Yes.    flying app takes priority but you can put in for both. 

Speak to any of the staff if you have more questions.   CI Malik and CI Maleeka have been staff cadets.    Capt Legge has been a summer officer. 

CI Horton if you have technical application questions.    He will enter all into computer ( based on what you send him) and forward to CO for recommendation.

CADET TRAINING POSITIONS SUMMER 2025

Cadets in Level 2 and up will have the opporunity to put their names in for consideration, with staff then completing the formal applicaitons. Summer training is a LOTTERY, with in 2024 there being 7000 spaces for the more than 50000 cadets across the country. Last year, we had approx 15 cadets selected for courses, with us having approx 110 cadets as the end of that year.

Cadets do not have to apply for summer training. Summer training is not required for promotion. Having attended training can build skills and experience that will help in subsequent years.

Deadline to apply for summer trg is 15 Feb. We’ll process late applicaitons after that, but only after we have ensure that every on time one has been done and submitted.

L2 to L4 online courses;

Cadets hlave been sent inforation on how to get added onto the list for any of these courses that are applicable to them. it is on our Sqn sharepoint page, and is in their Outlook C365 mailbox right now.

  1. Read up.
  2. Jot down the up to three courses you wish to apply for, along with the course serial code.
  3. Go to the link for the microsoft form, and fill in.

COURSE OFFERS

in Spring – Course offers will begin coming in. These forms ( to be reviewed and signed by cadet and parent/guardian) state the course, and course dates, along with course location.

We ask you to CAREFULLY read the offer.

You will complete and return the last page – confirming if you ACCEPT THE OFFER, or DECLINE The OFFER.

This is the training dates of the course – it doesn’t include travel days to get there.

Expect to leave a day or two before the course start date, dependent on distance to training location.

We have a short time to turn these offers around – so if a cadet fails to reutrn the form quickly – we’ll assume they do not wish to go and decline them.

What happens after that?

After cadets start completing their offers – more spaces should open as we inevitably have some cadets decline their offers.

When do we find out what to pack?

Those are in cadet language called JOINING INSTRUCTIONS. Those can already be found online from last year, with few changes expected for this summer.

Travel Information?

That will likely come one week before the course starts, and will include information on meeting a bus, train or airplane to get you to camp.

Most cadets will travel by bus, likely from the regional travel pick up point. ( Near 401, has washrooms and food). It has been at the McDonald / Tims / Peavy Mart parking lot, no Homer Watson near Conestoga College.
