EFFECTIVE SPEAKING AND DEBATE

The Effective Speaking and Debate programs are Air Cadet League (ACL) sponsored activities and are in addition to the Cadet Training program as prescribed by the Department of National Defense (DND).

A key element in the development of leadership traits in young men and women is the ability to communicate effectively and we believe that these programs provide important skills that will benefit Cadets in their future undertakings.

The aim of these programs is:

  • To provide an opportunity for Air Cadets to develop self-confidence, improve communication skills and increase their ability to reason, organize and express ideas logically and persuasively.
  • To foster the principles of team working and enable cadets to further develop the skills acquired through the mandatory LHQ and Summer Training Centre leadership and instructional techniques courses.
  • To promote the citizenship component of local squadron training by familiarizing Air Cadets with Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • To increase public awareness at the provincial and local levels of the citizenship and leadership aspects of the Air Cadet program.

296 Squadron has been fortunate to have had local representation with both of these programs for a number of years and encourage all those interested to consider participating.
