Field Training Uniform:

The Green FTU uniform is a new uniform for air cadets – one previously only issued to them at some summer camps. This FTU will be the day to day uniform for most cadet activities. Air Cadets will as well have the BLUE dress uniform.

The FTU Uniform is listed on the cadet order of dress as C5. It’s just a short form way to say what cadets will be in. ” You’re wearing C5. ”

.

Maintenance:

The FTU boots are kept clean and blackened. The FTU boots are not to be polished.

The FTU uniform ( green components) are machine washable. They can be put in dryer or hung to dry. They are NOT to be ironed. No bleach to be used.

The beret can be handwashing. Then hung or layed out to dry.

When cold – the cadets can wear the BLUE PARKA with zip in liner with the Green FTUs.

Beret

At the Armoury – cadets will wear the Beret with their FTU, or will wear the Wedge as an alternate.

the Beret is worn on the top of the head, with the Air Cadet Badge centered over the cadets left eye. the right side of the beret is then draped down to just over the side of the beret.

A common mistake is for cadets to pull the beret down tight on their head like a toque. It is not worn like that. This picture shows a cadet with a properly formed and worn beret. The beret black edge should be parallel to the ground ( not pulled down in the back like a toque).

Cadets in the band MAY wear the highland issue glen as well when they are acting as part of the band. It would never be worn at activities where they were not playing as part of the band.

A link is provided below with a video on setting up / forming your beret.

.

Blue T-Shirt

the issued blue T-shirt is worn under the FTU shirt. It should be clean.

.

FTU Pants

The FTU should be worn with the T-shirt tucked into the pants, and a belt on the pants. After putting on the pants, the boots should then be done up. AFTER the boots are on the laces at the bottom of the pants done up, in what is called BLOUSING.

.

FTU Green Shirt / Smock

The smock / button up shirt is worn with the buttons done up ( except the top one) , and the drawstrings tied on it. It is not tucked into the pants.

Rank slipon is worn over the center epaulet.

Buttons on pockets flaps should be done up, unless you are then specifically using that pocket.

.

Outer Jacket

The blue parka is worn with both the dress uniform and the FTU if it is cold. The toque can be worn outside if it’s cold, and if the jacket is on.

Proper rank should be worn on the parka.

If it is cold – cadets may wear the TOQUE and BLACK GLOVES with the blue parka. Cadets must bring their beret with them to cadets – the toque is not worn indoors. ( Cadets would come into armoury – and take off their toque – put on their beret)

Senior cadets will be showing the cadets how to wear and look after the uniform..

Additionally this video from our friends in 75 Sqn showing how to put on the FTU uniform can be helpful

Roll out of FTU uniform:

It will take us a number of weeks to get all of the FTU issued out. Please be patient, our supply is small and may of these uniforms were issued to us in bulk some months ago. CI Roy, our Supply Officer is making getting the FTU out the priority.
