Community Service – Cadet Volunteer Hours

Cadets across Canada will give their time to support other groups, events and activities. These events can be counted towards their Ontario High School Volunteer Hours, and help complete the requirements to pass their level each year.

With those run by the Squadron each year, a number of events can count towards these. Note that events to support the squadron DO NOT count towards volunteering as part of cadets – that just cadets.

While some events will appear regularly year to year – some are a one off.

TO CLAIM YOUR HOURS:

Some schools will have electronic data forms to you to fill in.

For any cadet needing their HS volunteer community service hour sheet signed confirming they attended an event – just fill in your form with the activities you attended, and bring to CI Horton to confirm. He’ll review the attendance and sign off. ( this also means you need to give him the forms with sufficient time for him to complete the review)

You can review the website calendar to confirm the dates.

Q/A

Why doesn’t tagging / reg wed training / sports and stuff count?

That’s just part of being a cadet. It benefits you. Helping others? Giving your time to help another group? Thats what this is about.

My youth group at church/mosque/temple/location considers cadets to be part of volunteering for our program. Does that matter?

Nope. If part of your other group does consider cadet time to check off a box for them – great. That’s between your group and yourself.

What are the dates?

Well you should check the calendar. Most of the dates don’t require too much effort. Rem day is same day every year.

I have an idea for a volunteer event the sqn can do.

Talk to the CO. Present the idea. We have a series of rules we have to follow. ( for example – we are FORBIDDEN to help guide cars in a parking lot specifically. WE cannot be part of any specifically political event – we must remain neutral. Cadets can’t be near alcohol – so no helping at a Rib-Fest. There are a lot of rules)

IF we can fit it in the schedule, IF we can find adult supervision, IF it meets the guidelines we have…maybe? At least ask.
